Harris Corporation is one of three companies to take part in a $12.7 billion 10-year contract to provide communications gear to the U.S. Army.
That according to Congresswoman Louise Slaughter, who says the contract was competitively bid and also includes Rockwell Collins and General Dynamics.
Slaughter says she fought to change military acquisition policies in order to end no-bid military contracts to allow companies like Harris to openly compete for this program.
Senator Chuck Schumer also issued a statement, saying he is pleased the Department of Defense eliminated the single-vendor process and is allowing "healthy competition."
The contract calls for supplying radios and accessories to the Army. A statement released by Harris says that the Army expects to acquire about 65,000 radios, with more sophisticated capabilities than previous generations of tactical radios.
