Harris Corporation, which has operations in Rochester, is receiving a contract to provide a new specialized handheld tactical radios to Special Operations Forces.
Senator Chuck Schumer and Congresswoman Louise Slaughter say it will be worth up to $390 million.
A statement provided to WXXI News from Chris Young, the President Of Harris' Communications Systems Division in Rochester, says that the innovative technology delivers a more capable, smaller and lighter radio.
Both Slaughter and Schumer say that Harris won a competitive bid, beating out two other proposals.
A Harris spokesman says it would be premature to say whether this latest contract would result in any additional jobs locally.
In July, officials announced that the recent acquisition of Exelis, the aerospace, defense and technology company, would result in at least 100 jobs being added in the Rochester area.
