Harris Corp. To Add 100+ Jobs In Rochester

Harris Corporation

The recent merger involving two local companies is resulting in more jobs for Rochester. It’s an outgrowth of the acquisition of  Exelis by Harris Corporation.

Both Harris and Exelis have operations locally. Harris makes military and public safety communications equipment here, and Exelis has operated its Geospatial Systems division in Rochester.

Harris spokesman Jim Burke tells WXXI News that Exelis was making a military radio in Indiana, but it made sense to move that operation to a more modern facility on Jefferson Road in Henrietta.

"What we're doing is we're consolidating the line that produces what's known as a "SINGAR" radio, it's another tactical radio from our Fort Wayne, Indiana operation and it will be manufactured going forward  out of the Rochester facility."

Senator Chuck Schumer made the announcement and he says Harris has agreed to bring 100 new jobs to Rochester over the next year with the potential to later add another 50 jobs.

Harris is also investing about $2 million in new equipment and renovations at the Henrietta facility.
