Group Rallies to Say Thanks to Governor's Fracking Ban

foodandwaterwatch.org

One of the rallies expected in Albany today is definitely not a protest.

A group of around 60 anti-fracking activists boarded a bus this morning to attend the State of the State and Budget message, and say thanks to Governor Cuomo for his administration's ban on fracking.

Rita Yelda is Western New York organizer for the group Food and Water Watch.

She says with the fracking ban, the state's public health, water, air, farms, agriculture, tourism and much more are spared from being negatively impacted by a toxic drilling industry.

And they'll thank the governor for that.

She says they'll also rally behind efforts to invest in a renewable energy plan for the state -- something she says would create jobs in the Southern Tier.

Business groups like Unshackle Upstate have called the fracking ban "a lost opportunity."
