A Pittsford woman whose son died of a drug overdose in February is channeling her grief into a personal mission.
Becky Baker doesn't want other mothers to watch their children's lives end or be ruined by the scourge of drug addiction. 27-year old Scott Baker had been battling a heroin addiction for ten years. Becky said her son had been off drugs for four months when he overdosed.
"It was devastating. We had the best summer. We had the best four months ever because he was clean and he was getting back to being himself again."
Baker organized an eventin Rochester Wednesday to connect people with agencies and advocates who can help people dealing with addiction.
"I would really like to see people have hope for their loved ones who are struggling,” she said. There is hope. There are as many drug addicts recovering as there are drug addicts."
Wednesday’s event, which is part of International Overdose Awareness Day, was held at Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Park on Court Street in Rochester.
Trillium Health offered Narcan training. Other nonprofits, addiction services and advocates were on hand to discuss their services and answer questions.
