Golisano Gives $3 Million To The Al Sigl Community

The Al Sigl Community of Agencies is going to receive a $3 million gift from local philanthropist and entrepreneur Tom Golisano and the Golisano Foundation. That is the largest gift Al Sigl has ever received from a living donor.

Al Sigl is a network of organizations that serves more than 55,000 children and adults with special needs. Officials say that $3 million commitment will fund improvements to the Al Sigl campus on Elmwood Avenue.

The funds from Golisano are part of the Celebrating Abilities Campaign, a multi-year capital campaign that has raised more than $21 million on a goal of $26.8 million.

The money will go toward efforts to renovate the Golisano Building, to provide more modern technologies and other services. It is likely the Elmwood Campus will be renamed the Golisano Campus, and the entire project is expected to be completed in 2018.

Bob Hurlbut, one of the campaign chairs, said that the project, "will position Al Sigl and our Member Agencies to meet the challenges of tomorrow as we strive for a world of full inclusion for people of all abilities. We truly can’t thank Tom enough.”

Golisano says that he is "particularly impressed with the openness of the proposed facility renovation and the spirit of inclusion that will benefit generations."
