Ginna Plan Would Cost Electric Ratepayers More Money

Ginna Nuclear Power Plant

The New York State Public Service Commission is holding hearings next week about a plan that would allow for the continued operation of the Ginna nuclear plant in Wayne County. But it would cost consumers more money.

According to the PSC, the three-and-a-half year agreement would cost the average residential customer an increase of about $3.89  a month on their electric bill.

Last fall, the commission found that the continued operation of the Ginna plant is needed to preserve the reliability of the electric system, and directed RG&E to enter into talks with the owner of the plant, Exelon Corporation.

The public will have a chance to comment at hearings next Wednesday, May 6th at 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. in Webster at the town parks and recreation building; and also next Thursday, May 7th, at Rochester City Hall also at 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
