Genesee Deputy Patrol Car Shot At

Officials have added another charge after a man in Byron was accused of shooting at a Genesee County Sheriff's patrol car  Monday. That according to Sheriff Gary Maha, who says two deputies were working a traffic stop at the four corners in the Town of Byron at Noon on Monday.

He says Deputy Andrew Hale had pulled over a car in a convenience store parking lot for a seat belt violation, and as the deputy was sitting in his car checking on some information both his his rear windows shattered.

Another Deputy, Joseph Corona was called to the scene, and he noticed an upstairs window open in the Byron Hotel with a man moving around inside.

Additional deputies and state police went into the building and found 55 year old David O'Connor in the room with a .22 rifle. Authorities say O'Connor made some admissions in connection with the shooting and he was taken into custody without incident.

A charge of Attempted Aggravated Murder of a Police officer was added on Monday night. O'Connor also faces charges that include reckless endangerment and criminal mischief.

He was ordered held on $25,000 bail.
