Gates Woman Charged With Killing Her Fiance

Gates Police have charged a woman in that town with killing her fiance. On Thursday morning, police charged 49 year old Ronna Nary with second degree murder. She is accused of using a shotgun  to shoot 61 year old Dennis Perks of 109 Cole Avenue early on Wednesday evening.

Both Perks and Nary live at that address and they were engaged.  Another person at the house called police after the shooting. Perks later was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Authorities are not talking about a possible motive right now. Chief Jim Van Brederode tells WXXI News he is aware of only one other call to the house for a domestic issue, which happened last month.

Van Brederode says Gates Police do have a staff person whose job it is to follow up on domestic violence calls.

"We have a civilian domestic violence coordinator who gets the reports every day that we generate out on the street and she follows up with the victims to see what further services we can offer to keep them safe or to encourage them to follow through with an arrest situation"

Nary was ordered held without bail pending a court appearance next month.
