Gas prices steady (for now)

Gas prices have been dropping the last month or so, but don't get too comfortable.

That's the word from AAA, which predicts prices will climb as we head close to spring.

Spokesperson for AAA of Western and Central New York, Lindsay Hawkins, says factors such as the spring refinery maintenance season and the switch to summer blend gasoline will impact prices.

"We going to get back into that driving season a little bit more, especially as we see the weather outside getting a lot nicer.  So unfortunately we are going to most likely see gas prices start to increase," she said.

Hawkins says the spring peak nationally could be $2.80 a gallon, and around Rochester that means gas prices around $3 dollars a gallon.

The current average around Rochester is $2.38 a gallon, down a penny from last week.

But compare that to a year ago, when the average price was $1.98 a gallon.
