Gas Prices Keep Falling: Now Under $2 a Gallon Statewide

npr.org

The price at the pump has fallen another four cents the last week, and now the average price for a gallon of gas in New York is under $2 dollars.

Elizabeth Carey is public affairs manager for AAA for Western and Central New York.

She says a gallon of gas is even a little cheaper here in Rochester, averaging $1.94.

But that's still much higher than the national average of $1.70 a gallon.

Carey says that has to do with the tax structure in New York State and refinery locations.

She does note that there are a few stations around the Rochester area selling gas at the national rate of $1.70.

Carey says AAA expects prices to taper off when refineries start their spring maintenance.

And prices usually go up in the summertime during the peak driving season.

But AAA National  doesn't expect gas prices to go up over 3 dollars a gallon this year
