Gas Prices Continue to Climb

Gas prices have gone up another seven cents a gallon the past week, according to AAA.

Spokesperson Elizabeth Carey says the average around Rochester is now $2.32 a gallon.

She says the higher price is due to increased demand.

"Because prices were so low, more motorists decided to head out, use that gasoline, take road trips and drive more often.  So drivers have been enjoying those prices, therefore driving more and that increased demand is what's really impacting the prices now," she says.

Carey adds analysts will look at several factors with the news today that oil prices have slipped about 2 percent while OPEC production was up for the entire month of April.

"The rig count is down in the U-S right now, that means U-S output is down. That will likely pick up as oil prices go up. So analysts will be keeping an eye on those oil prices, and on the demand and the use of gasoline and that will determine what prices are in the future," she says.

Carey says people should shop around, and they'll find gasoline selling for lower than the average price.
