EmpireSuperSprints.com

Funeral services have now been set for Kevin Ward Jr., the 20 year old race car driver who died after he was struck by a car driven by NASCAR's Tony Stewart in Canandaigua.

Ward is from the North Country, and the funeral will be held in Boonville, NY, north of Utica,  at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the Trainor Funeral Home. Calling hours are being held on Wednesday.

The website of the Empire Sprint Series, the series in which Ward raced, says that his entire family sends their sincere thanks for all of the heartfelt messages and calls. The family says it wants to see a big turnout at the funeral, saying that they are very proud of Kevin Jr.

Cards and letters can be sent to the Ward Family at 3501 Kelpytown Rd., Port Leyden, NY 13433

Ward died during a race at Canandaigua Motorsports Park Saturday night. Ward and Stewart had crashed, and later Ward got out of his car, gesturing at Stewart, when Ward was struck by Stewart's car, and later died as a result of his injuries.

The Ontario County Sheriff's Department says at this point, no criminal charges are pending, but the investigation is continuing.
