Funding For Bicycle Track Project At College Town

Rochester is getting federal money to improve access for bicyclists near the University of Rochester.  It’s happening where the new College Town project is going up near Mount Hope Avenue.

Mayor Lovely Warren says the city is getting one million dollars in federal money for the College Town Cycle Track project.  That's a two-way bike path that will run along Elmwood Avenue and connect the Genesee River Trail and the U of R's River Campus with the Medical Center, Mount Hope Avenue and the College Town complex.

Senator Chuck Schumer last fall urged the state to provide the funding to the city as part of its transportation enhancement program, and last week, Governor Cuomo announced that Rochester was selected as one of 63 projects across the state to receive the funding.

The funds cover 80 percent of the $1.5 million project. The other half- million dollars comes from the developers of College Town, and the city will also provide a $250,000 match.

Construction is scheduled to begin next year. Warren says when it's completed,  the track will allow bicyclists easy and safe access to businesses and services at that location.
