Frontier Cutting 1,000 Jobs Nationwide; no word yet on local impact

Frontier Communications has announced it is laying off a total of about 1,000 employees across the country.

There is no word yet how many people might be impacted in the Rochester area. Frontier calls the restructuring a “meaningful and necessary next step toward realizing the full potential of our increased scale following the recent Verizon transaction.”

Frontier has acquired some of Verizon’s wireline operations. The news came on the same day Frontier announced earnings. It saw a net loss in income of $80 million compared to the same period last year, but earnings per share were in line with expectations. Revenues were slightly less than Wall Street anticipated.

Frontier says employees impacted by the layoffs will be notified over the next several weeks.

The company says they will be eligible for severance benefits and Frontier is helping supplement the first two months of COBRA medical benefits.

Frontier employs about 1,800 in the Rochester area.
