Founding Member Of The Wilmot Cancer Institute Has Died

Dr. Philip Rubin, professor and chair emeritus of radiation oncology at the University of Rochester Medical Center has died.

Rubin was 87. He was among the founding members of what is now the Wilmot Cancer Institute and officials say he was a pioneer in research on the effects of radiation exposure and surviving cancer.

He joined the URMC faculty in 1957 and created the Department of Radiation Oncology. Rubin also did research for the National Cancer Institute on the effects of radiation on different organs in the body.
