Former URMC CEO Pledges $1 Million For Endowed Professorship

A former CEO of the University of Rochester Medical Center is committing one million dollars to help establish an endowed professorship in support of the university's orthopaedic education.

The gift will create the Dr. C. McCollister Evarts Professorship in Orthopaedics.  McCollister, or  " Mac " as he's known, was appointed CEO of the medical center in 2003. He retired three years later.

Evarts began his medical career in Rochester after graduating from the medical school in 1957.  He is credited with helping to introduce total hip replacement surgery to the United States.

Currently, Evarts is a faculty member at Penn State.
