Former postal worker sentenced for theft

A former Rochester postal worker has been sentenced to 90 days in jail and was ordered to pay $648 in restitution for a stolen cell phone.

Bobby Bullard, 35, of Rochester, was convicted of theft by a government employee.

Bullard worked as a mail handler at the U.S. Mail Processing and Distribution Center in Rochester when prosecutors say he was seen rifling through packages he was supposed to be sorting.

The U.S. Attorney's office said agents from the U.S. Postal Service Inspector General conducted surveillance on three separate occasions and recorded Bullard taking packages that contained smart phones off the sorting conveyor belt, opened them, and put the smart phones in his pocket before throwing the packages away.

Agents said they recovered several cell phones from Bullard.  He is no longer a Postal Service employee.

In addition to his three month jail term, Bullard was sentenced to a year of supervised release.
