Former Mayor Bill Johnson Analyzes Lovely Warren's Win

Rochester Mayor William Johnson

Rochester is still reacting to last night's stunning Mayoral primary victory for Lovely Warren.

She defeated incumbent mayor Tom Richards in the Democratic Primary 58 to 41 percent.

Former Rochester Mayor Bill Johnson tells WXXI News that Warren proved him and many others wrong. He had encouraged her to wait before trying to unseat Richards.

Johnson credits Warren's grassroots campaign and her strong belief in her efforts.

He said it's obvious that the Richards campaign dropped the ball.

“She proved me wrong and a lot of other people wrong, she was determined, she organized a great campaign, she got her vote out, and that’s the formula for winning any election. She did it in an amazing and a very complete and thorough manner.”

Richards is still on the ballot with the Working Families and Independence Party Lines. But he says he needs a couple days to decide if  he’ll proceed with the November election.
