A new survey on summer job prospects has brought some national attention to Rochester.

That national publicity comes in an article from Forbes magazine, which was posted after the latest quarterly survey on jobs prospects from the employment agency Manpower.  Looking at the third quarter, Manpower says employers in Rochester will hire at a brisker pace than any other metro area in the country over the next three months.

That good news was part of an article in Forbes, which also spoke to Rochester Business Alliance President Bob Duffy for a few quotes. Duffy tells us that he's not really surprised. He says in a way, Rochester is the best kept secret of New York State, with an increasing number of high tech jobs coming out of this region.

“You look at some of the jobs being generated by our standard companies, but also look at some of these businesses that are emanating from our universities, I know that medical device manufacturing is a core strength here, photonics, a core strength here. Our technological background and expertise here are so broad and so well known”

Duffy says the publicity from Forbes will certainly help in efforts to market the Rochester area to other businesses.

Mayor Lovely Warren issued a statement saying that, “Rochester is and always has been a city that leads.”  Warren says her administration has aggressively gone after public and private grants and designations to help capitalize off the city’s “culture of innovation.”

The latest Manpower Survey says that for the third quarter, 38-percent of local employers plant to increase staffing, 3-percent will decrease staffing and 59-percent will maintain staffing at the current level.
