Rochester, NY – The need for food assistance has gone up 20 percent in the Greater Rochester area over the last two years.
That's according to Foodlink, the regional food bank, which is preparing its latest hunger study.
Executive Director Tom Ferraro says the demand for food has been expanding into the inner-ring suburbs of Gates, Greece, Irondequoit and Henrietta. But Ferraro says the greatest increase has taken place in the outer suburbs where people have been saddled with high mortgages based on two incomes.
Ferraro says the hunger study will be released in about a month.
