Rochester, NY – St. John Fisher College President Donald Bain told the college community Thursday that plans for building a law school in downtown Rochester are on hold.
Bain made the announcement in an internal email. He blamed the move on the collapse of the Renaissance Square project and economic instability.
Mayor Bob Duffy reacted to the decision saying the law school is not a dead issue. He says Bain is exercising appropriate caution.
Duffy says the death of Renaissance Square is not hurting the city's development of downtown, despite the impact on law school plans and efforts by the Rochester Broadway Theatre League to find a new home outside of the city.
Duffy says meetings are going well with developers. He also expects MCC to build a new downtown campus and the bus authority to locate a new headquarters in the center city.
