Former Kodak electrical engineer Steve Sasson invented the first digital camera in 1975.
It was part of an assignment from his supervisor, Gareth A. Lloyd to attempt to build an electronic camera using a charge coupled device (CCD).
The 8-pound camera is on display for the first time as part of the Innovation in the Imaging Capital exhibit at the George Eastman House.
A panel discussion is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. this Saturday, November 22 at the Eastman House. Sasson, along with photographers Robert Burley and James Estrin of the New York Times will talk about how the shift from analog to digital photography has changed our relationship to images.
