WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (AP)  The top prize at the 2016 New York Wine and Food Classic competition goes to Billsboro Winery 2013 Syrah from the Finger Lakes Region.

The red wine was awarded the Governor's Cup trophy on Wednesday in Watkins Glen. Keuka Spring Vineyards, also from the Finger Lakes, was named Winery of the Year at the event, known as the Oscars of New York wine competitions.

This year's competition included 893 New York wines, 20 hard ciders and 38 craft spirits from the Long Island, Hudson Valley, Finger Lakes, Niagara Escarpment and Lake Erie regions.

Finger Lakes Distilling McKenzie Bourbon Whisky was named best spirit and the best cider was Brooklyn Cider House Half Sour.

The competition is organized by the New York Wine and Grape Foundation.
