Financial Services Seminar Promotes Equality through Wealth Management

A Rochester financial planner is promoting what he calls a first-of-its kind seminar this weekend to help African Americans in the struggle for equality.

William Hall says his interactive event designed to help people create and maintain intergenerational wealth is the first one locally to feature all Black financial professionals.

"I don't think this is through any nefarious means, but people typically tend to help people who look like them, because there's a comfort level there,” he said. “Unfortunately there aren't a lot of black and brown people in my profession."

Hall, a financial services representative with NYLife Securities, LLC, says he believes mentors of the same racial background of the seminar participants are in the best position to impart knowledge that will result in sustainable action.

"You know, there are a lot of different things going on across the country. A lot of different people are trying to fight for equality. With the rise of certain political figures we're seeing a lot of racism and xenophobia come up. I can't correct those things, but through finance and through economics, you can give people a voice, and we're trying to help people create and maintain intergenerational wealth."

Hall says the seminar will offer advice on homeownership, how to start and sustain a business, and end of life planning.

The event is free and will include breakfast and lunch. It runs from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. this Saturday, June 11, at the Rochester Educational Opportunity Center at 161 Chestnut Avenue.
