Feds To Investigate Complaint By UR Student On How Charge Of Sexual Assault Was Handled

rochester.edu

The University of Rochester says that the U.S. Department of Education will investigate a student's complaint about the way the university handled her allegation of sexual assault.

In a statement issued Tuesday, the university notes that the letter from the Education Department's Office of Civil Rights says that opening an investigation in no way implies the office has made a determination on the merits of the complaint. It is an attempt at fact finding in collecting and analyzing evidence.

The university has told federal officials that it will cooperate fully with the investigation. U of R officials say they take their responsibility on the issue of sexual assaults on campus very seriously, and the university will work closely with the education department to detail its policies and procedures for sexual misconduct investigations.

There was no other information released about the allegation, or when it was made.
