Fatal Hot Air Balloon Accident In Livingston County

TWC News

State Police are releasing more information about an accident involving a hot air balloon that killed one person in Livingston County Friday night.

The victim is now identified as 34 year old Ryan Almeter. Reportedly he was a teacher in the Keshequa Central School District.

Troopers say just after 9pm Friday, Almeter was restraining the basket in a field in Nunda to allow passengers to get out, when wind caused the balloon to take flight. The balloon reached about 100 feet when Almeter let go of the basket and fell to his death.

The FAA and NTSB are investigating.
