Calling the White House’s policies divisive, racist and xenophobic, some local faith leaders are calling for the impeachment of President Donald Trump.

The Rev. Lewis Stewart convened members of his United Christian Leadership Ministry and others to condemn Trump’s policies, comparing what has happened on the southern border to the slavery era.

Stewart says while Trump has bowed to public outrage, the strong nationalistic attitudes of this president and his administration must be continuously challenged and condemned.

He says Trump will lead this nation into further chaos without opposition.

“We call for the impeachment of Donald Trump.  It is right.  It is necessary,” he said.

UCLM members are reminding people that "all politics is local."

Stewart also called for organizing for the 2018 mid-term elections.

Minister Kenneth Muhammad offered what he calls the Muslim perspective.

He says Trump’s policies have grown out of a belief system that is not new to the black community.

“We want to focus on the belief system from which Trump’s motives spring from. And that is white supremacy, in its fullest,” he said.

Amid public and bipartisan pressure, Trump last week reversed his policy of separating children from detained migrant parents.

It has already resulted in up to 2,300 children being taken from parents, though the government has said 522 already have been reunited with their families

Trump has said migrant children would eventually reunite with their families, unlike the American families who have suffered the loss of a loved one at the hands of someone who has crossed the border illegally.

The Rev. Lewis Stewart and members of the United Christian Leadership Ministry says the xenophobic attitudes of the Trump administration must be strongly and continuously challenged and condemned:
