Facing Race, Embracing Equity

Educating the Rochester community about the myths and realities of race is the goal of a new local initiative.

The Facing Race, Embracing Equity was formally launched Tuesday evening at Asbury First United Methodist Church.

James Norman, President and CEO of Action for A Better Community, says Race and Housing, Race and Education and Race and Health Disparities are among the topics of discussion with a goal of creating tools and resources to address some of the inequity that we have in our community.

The ongoing Facing Race, Embracing Equity discussion is in conjunction with a traveling exhibit called RACE: Are We So Different? which opens at the Rochester Museum & Science Center beginning next week. The initiative is a partnership between Action for a Better Community, RISE Coalition, the Community Foundation, the Rochester Museum & Science Center and WXXI Public Broadcasting, among other groups.
