The George Eastman House has received a $100,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities to create an interactive online archive.
That according to Congresswoman Louise Slaughter, who says the free, web-based archive will be available for historians, researchers and academics to study the influence of Technicolor an American cinema and popular culture in the 20th century.
The grant will allow the Eastman House to digitally archive 60,000 artifacts from the Technicolor Motion Picture Corporation from 1915 to 1955. In collaboration with the Smithsonian, and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, the Eastman House will make the collection of photographs, documentation and equipment available online for the first time.
The project begins in May with a projected completion date in November of 2017.
