East High School: The Future

http://youtu.be/XEC_8FMVYdkThe future of East High School. That’s the topic of this edition of Need to Know Rochester. Host Hélène Biandudi Hofer is joined by Rochester Superintendent, Bolgen Vargas, and Adam Urbanski, President of the Rochester Teachers Association.

After the taping of the program on Thursday, May 15th, the State Education Department gave its tentative approval to a collaboration between the University of Rochester and the city school district for a plan to help East High School. State Ed wants a detailed plan for East by July 1, 2014. State officials also are requiring the District to come up with a backup plan to phase out East High School in case Education Commissioner John King doesn't approve the takeover plan by the University of Rochester.
