Duffy Releases Schools Draft
By WXXI Staff
Rochester, NY – Reports about the contents of the mayor's draft mayoral control proposal leaked over the weekend. Now residents can read the proposal for themselves.
The mayor's proposal includes comments from parents and community leaders, and offers a list of changes that mayoral control would provide. Those include allowing parents to send their children to neighborhood elementary schools, increased safety, and replicating popular programs like the School of the Arts at other schools. Duffy also pledges to increase graduation rates to 65 percent within five years.
The document also lists a litany of statistics about city schools as evidence for the need for a shake-up.
