If you like the booming sounds of drum and bugle corps and you live in the Rochester area, this is your weekend.

The Drum Corps World Championships are being held in the city Friday night through Sunday.

The Dansville White Sabers, a former winner of these championships, showed off their talents at a news conference Friday at the Holiday Inn on State Street to kick off three days of the event.

The main competition is being held Saturday and Sunday at Rochester Rhinos Stadium.

The president of the Drum Corps Associates, Allen Buell, says the crowds that come to this event have a big impact on the local economy.

“This three day extravaganza will bring close to 10,000 people to our community and millions of dollars into the local economy, this is huge, not only for Monroe County and the City of Rochester, but for the State of New York, it’s a big deal, it’s a big piece of business.”

“On Labor Day weekend, typically cities are not very busy, people travel, but it’s family travel, the lakes, it’s picnics, that type of thing. For us to have 4,000 hotel rooms over the weekend and 10,000 people is a terrific thing for the city of Rochester.”

This marks the 18th time the Drum Corps Championship has been in Rochester, more times than it’s been any other city.
