Dogs Reunited with Families Following Kennel Fire

twcnews.com

Some dogs that escaped a three-alarm fire Sunday at the Add-En-On Kennel in Mendon have returned home today.

Eleanor Oi of Brighton picked up her two dogs this morning. She said her heart goes out to the owners of the dogs who did not make it out alive. "I feel horrible....I feel horrible for them."

Oi experienced some anxious moments this morning, when she first learned about the fire after getting a phone call from her mother. Oi had been out of town for the weekend to attend a concert. She made some phone calls and knew that one of her dogs was safe, but wasn't able to get any information about her second dog.

“So that was worrying me quite a bit until I got a hold of the kennel and they told me that both of them were fine." Oi said.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office said a kennel worker and some others were able to free 25 to 30 of the 40 to 50 dogs from the fire that started before noon on Sunday.

Seven of the dogs were treated at Monroe Veterinary Emergency Services in Henrietta. Hospital administrator Rochelle Richardson says one of them had to be euthanized after suffering severe burns.

"The other six, though, have all been in various stages of rehabilitation.” Richardson said.
“Four have been discharged. Two still do remain in the hospital, in the clinical area, receiving oxygen treatment and some treatment for light burns."

Investigators have not yet ruled on the cause of the fire.
