A golden doodle that was reported missing from a Webster kennel earlier this week has been reunited with her family.

An employee at TheraVet Acres in Webster has been arraigned on charges of grand larceny and stealing a companion animal, a misdemeanor.

Corporal John Helfer of the Monroe County Sheriff's Office says 23-year old Cassandra Blake of Sodus admitted to taking the dog from the kennel and selling it on Craig's List.

The couple who purchased the dog became suspicious after seeing media and social media reports about the missing dog.

The dog was scanned for a microchip, positively identified, and returned to her owners.

Helfer said it doesn't happen often, but deputies do get reports of stolen pets from time to time.

"Some dogs are of great value and if the would-be criminal knows there is a demand for a certain breed of dog, then that puts your dog at risk. Obviously, in this case, we're glad that it had a happy ending."

Helfer said the kennel staff fully cooperated with the investigation and were shocked to learn that a recently hired employee was charged in the case.
