Latino students are the fastest growing population in public schools throughout the US. In a decade they’re projected to make up nearly 1/3 of all students in grades K-12. A number of reports on the condition of Latinos in education reveal a picture of progress, but also challenges. Examining this growing demographic locally, particularly in Rochester city schools, exposes something much deeper. This Need to Know segment focuses on a recent investigation by the Democrat & Chronicle. Findings include a number of flaws in how Latino students with disabilities are educated in the city school system.
Guests for this segment include: D&C reporter Justin Murphy, Director of Special Education for the Rochester City School District Chris Suriano, and Latino family advocate Ana Casserly.
