Discussion Focuses on Youth in Rochester

Finding ways to keep Rochester’s youth out of jail and gangs was the topic of a discussion Thursday night.

Action for a Better Community hosted a community forum at the Rochester City School District Office.

Paul McFadden, a gang specialist, says one of the focuses is creating strategic plans for young people seeking ways out of the gang culture, "We want to start putting a push together for some type of skill-based and training-based activities for young people in after school hours. It will also deal with components that deal with tutoring and or GED classes."

Another idea McFadden says is creating a "one-stop-shop" center where youth transitioning from the juvenile system can receive their services.
