Deputies Blame Drunk Driving for Fatal Crash

Monroe County Sheriffs Department

A woman from Rush is facing charges for her involvement in a two car fatal collision in Henrietta late Saturday.

Monroe County Sheriffs deputies tell WXXI that Amanda Hunt of Rush was intoxicated at the time of the 11:15 pm crash, which occurred on her 25th birthday.

The accident happened at the intersection of Calkins Road and Hylan Drive. Deputies say Hunt was driving a Ford Focus. The other vehicle was a Toyota Rav4.

The other driver, 51 year old Lisa Welk of Henrietta, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the information released by a Sheriffs spokesperson.

Welk’s 15 year old daughter was found unconscious in the back seat. She and Hunt were taken to Strong Memorial Hospital.

Deputies say they talked to a witness who saw a vehicle like Hunt’s moments before the crash. The witness describes the car going very fast westbound on Calkins Road, even crossing the double yellow line into oncoming traffic.

Hunt was released from the hospital Sunday night and charged with aggravated vehicular homicide and DWI.  She was ordered held in county jail on $25,000 bail or $50,000 bond.
