Monroe County Democrats call it a clear case of political double standard.

MCDC Chair Dave Garretson says Mike Bovay, a Democratic candidate for County Legislature,   took an early lunch in May to attend a rally, but he failed to fill out his timesheet correctly and was recently fired from his job at the Department of Human Services.

Garretson says on the other hand, Justin Feasel, the Brooks' Administration's Communication Director, was only suspended a week without pay and had his county car privileges revoked for a month after he was riding in a county vehicle driven by his wife, who was charged with DWI.

"The slightest technical infraction, (Bovay's) terminated. We have a favored high ranking Republican who makes an egregious violation, that involved DWI and the use of a county vehicle, something that clearly calls for termination, and he's given a slap on the wrist," Garretson said.

Garretson is also calling for the county to release the name of the third person who was in Feasel's county vehicle, reported to also be a county employee.

Bovay says he firmly believes his firing was a political action because he's a Democrat.

County Executive Maggie Brooks issued a statement in response:

“This is the type of bad politics that this community has rejected time and time again. It’s shameful that these partisan democrats are trying to make a spectacle of two sensitive personnel matters that have been handled in accordance with County policy."
