Demonstrators In Rochester Rally For Iran Nuclear Deal

More than 50 protesters gathered outside the Federal Building in Rochester late Wednesday afternoon in support of  a nuclear arms deal with Iran. They also wanted to try and get New York's senior Senator to reverse his position on the agreement.

The demonstrators say they wanted to thank Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and Congresswoman Louise Slaughter for supporting the deal, and they wanted to let Senator Chuck Schumer know they feel he's out of sync with a lot of Americans in opposing it.

Schumer has concerns the agreement  would strengthen Iran by boosting its economy and ultimately may not prevent that country from developing a nuclear bomb.

Judy Bello helped organize the local protest, and she feels the agreement is a good one that would help ensure peace in the region.

“I think this is so important because there's so many wars right now in the Middle East and the United States has not shown a lot of diplomatic capability in these situations."

Lou Montemaggi is with an organization called Veterans for Peace, and he also backs the agreement.

"Negotiated diplomacy is what we support, and we feel that's the one way to avoid conflict with Iran and it is a reasonable resolution and we should support it."

Demonstrators also expressed concerns about the sanctions against Iran which they say harms the people more than the government.
