The State Board of Elections is reminding residents that Friday is the deadline to register to vote in November's general election.
Spokesman John Conklin says in order to vote, mail-in registration forms must be postmarked by midnight, October 13th.
"If you're just doing a new registration, or you're moving, it just has to be postmarked by tomorrow. If your intention is to change your party registration, it has to be at the board tomorrow," he said. "There's a quirk in the statute that it says 'received by' as opposed to 'post marked by.' It's unusual. We always try to explain that to people, because it's difficult when you get caught and say I mailed it by that day, and that's the problem. It's not postmarked, it's received by."
Forms can be downloaded at the Department of Motor Vehicles website or at elections.ny.gov.
