David Sweat, North Country prison escapee, moved to Attica

A prisoner whose escape from a North Country prison two years ago garnered nationwide headlines,  has been moved to Wyoming County.

The NYS Department of Corrections and Community Supervision says that David Sweat was recently transferred from the Five Points Correctional Facility in Seneca County to the Attica Correctional facility.

The state says it conducts bi-annual reviews, which include looking at concerns such  as an inmate’s behavior, allegiances with other inmates that could become disruptive, or over-familiarity with a facility.

But officials were not specific about why David Sweat was moved. They do note that there are about 5,000 inmate transfers from one prison to another every month.

Sweat, along with Richard Matt, escaped from the Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora in 2015 and were on the run for three weeks. Matt was shot and killed during the search.

Sweat was shot by officers and taken back into custody two days later.
