If you’re spending Thanksgiving in Rochester, you’re in the right place. That according to a New York City-based research firm called “Onboard Informatics.

That website listed the 20 best cities in the U.S. to celebrate Thanksgiving, and Rochester ranked #1. (Syracuse was ranked #7, Buffalo #17).

Among the criteria used by the firm, the proximity to the airport, (4.4 miles for ROC), since it’s such a big travel period;  the number of grocery stores, (172 in Rochester), since preparing a Thanksgiving meal can include multiple trips to the supermarket, and crime.

The list also was limited to cities with more than 100,000 people and cities where the weather is expected to be above freezing (for the holiday).

But just to smooth things out for the cities that didn’t top the list, Onboard says, “the truth is, the best place for Thanksgiving is wherever your family and friends are.”
