Dads Encouraged to Take Kids to School Wednesday

The Rochester City School District is encouraging Dads to take their child or children to the first day of school tomorrow.
Willie Robinson, District Coordinator for the Office of Parent Engagement, says they want to send a message on the first day of classes.

He says historically the message has been that fathers haven't been actively engaged in the academic process of students, so the district wants to get out the message that dad's do care.
Robinson says this fatherhood initiative is part of Operation MAN, or Men of Action Network.

The program focuses on four core areas: visibility in the schools, supporting specific parent activities, training programs, and mentorship.
Robinson says they've worked with a core group of fathers over the summer and have established the foundation of this program.
Tomorrow's take your child to work day coincides with the National Million Man March, which encourages father figures to take their kids to school, and play an active role in their child's education.
