ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — New York state is making progress on its goal of providing broadband internet to every corner of the state by the end of 2018.
During a series of upstate appearances Wednesday Gov. Andrew Cuomo said some 97 percent of the state will soon have high-speed internet access thanks to ongoing efforts to boost connectivity within the state.
The Democratic governor says quality, speedy internet access is vital to ensuring the state states economically competitive.
The advancements announced Wednesday includes state grants which will support 18,000 miles of broadband infrastructure, serving 18 upstate libraries and 96 government buildings, health care facilities, colleges and public schools.
