Cuomo Declares Small Business Saturday

Governor Andrew Cuomo tells New Yorkers to shop locally this weekend.

The governor has proclaimed the Saturday after Thanksgiving “Small Business Saturday.”

The idea is for New Yorkers to visit local retailers.

Daniel Mejak is the operations manager at Parkleigh—a small business on Park Avenue.

"The eyes of the community get to be opened up by a lot of the smaller shops that are in town, that do things a little bit differently than a lot of the big box stores that have other things to offer--possibly better customer service and better customer experience."

The U.S. Small Business Association says New York State has more than 57 thousand small businesses involved in retail that employ more than 350 thousand workers. Another 450 thousand people work in small businesses in the food and accommodation sectors.
