Connections: Remembering Maya Angelou; Previewing Miracle Weekend

In the first part of the show, we remember the life and career of poet and civil rights activist Maya Angelou, who died Wednesday at 86.

Then, we preview Miracle Weekend for Golisano Children's Hospital by meeting families of children who need special help. The hospital is looking to expand, because the demand for sensitive care is so high. They serve children with various ailments, from cancer to meningitis to premature birth. During the show, you'll meet some of the people who need help the most. We talk to Julie Vandevoorde, whose son has meningitis; Mike Fahy, who is known affectionately as a "NICU dad" after his child needed special care; and Heather Hare will tell us about the hospital's plans.

Evan Dawson is the host of "Connections with Evan Dawson." He joined WXXI in January 2014 after working at 13WHAM-TV, where he served as morning news anchor. He was hired as a reporter for 13WHAM-TV in 2003 before being promoted to anchor in 2007.
