Company owned by Tom Golisano proposes acquiring Greenlight Networks

Rochester-based internet provider Greenlight Networksis asking the NYS Public Service Commission to approve acquisition of the  company by local philanthropist and Paychex founder Tom Golisano.

A petition filed by Greenlight Networks and Grand Oaks LLC of Pittsford, which is owned by Golisano, asks the PSC to allow Grand Oaks to acquire a controlling interest in Greenlight.

The filing says that the proposed deal is in the public interest and would have no adverse impact  on customers or employees of Greenlight.

The petition says that approval of the transaction would help promote further development of the “competitive marketplace” for high-speed broadband, and allow Greenlight to continue to build and expand its fiber network. The filing says that the deal would not adversely affect the rates paid by Greenlight customers.

The filings on behalf of the two companies also say that Greenlight currently has a significant backlog because of  “overwhelming demand” for its fiber-optic internet service and it plans to hire more staff to keep up with that demand.
