Companies Team Up to Make LED Lights
By Emma Jacobs
Syracuse, NY – A team of companies from the U.S. and Canada is partnering to build super-efficient L-E-D lights. As the WXXI Innovation Trail's Emma Jacobs reports, they made their plans public in Syracuse late last week.
The LED lamps will be for industrial and commercial buildings. They'll eventually be made from start to finish in Central New York. The partner companies' CEOs were in the same room for the first time in Syracuse.
John Johnston heads the Canadian firm ProTerra. Johnston said he was so excited about the meeting he couldn't sleep the night before. He said having the other companies' expertise allows Proterra to do more, "With the relationship we'll now have a little more control over our destiny and our end product."
ProTerra is working with two nanotech companies to put the lights together. Ephesus is a Syracuse firm and Group4 Labs is a Silicon Valley firm that's opened a local office. They're also hiring. The firms plan to hire over fifty people in Central New York in the next five years.
