Coming up on Connections: Wednesday, January 28th

NPR

First hour: Do whistleblower laws work?

Second hour: Understanding Pope Francis

In our first hour, new rules are designed to protect whistleblowers. But are they working? Bill Lloyd's story suggests they are. The NY Times reported in August that Lloyd is one of the first whistleblowers under new Dodd-Frank provisions to be protected and paid for his reporting. He outed a scheme by MassMutual that included lying to customers about future payouts. Wednesday, he's in Rochester, telling his story, and first he's on Connections with us.

In our second hour, we examine the significance of Pope Francis to the Catholic Church. His public statements appear to be significantly further left on social issues than his predecessor. But is that reflected in actual doctrine? Are there real changes afoot, or is this simply a Pope with a defter public touch? Joining us in studio is a panel that includes:

Fr. George Heyman, president of St. Bernard's School of Theology and Ministry in Pittsford
Fr. Edward Salmon, McQuaid Jesuit High School
